D is for Domain Hosting

dI’ll probably keep this one short today. I’m a bit behind schedule because I wasn’t able to write my D post when I first got up.

Why, you ask?

Because Google kept telling me it couldn’t find the server for this site. I tried over and over. I logged into my hosting platform to see if anything was wrong. I couldn’t find anything amiss.

I was about to give up and call my hosting provider. I was actually on hold. I refreshed the screen and BAM – there was my site. I hung up the phone.

That’s not to say I won’t be calling. I just won’t do it right this second, with the urgency I felt earlier.

So, this brings me to my tip for my fellow freelancers. Make sure you have a great host for your website, business blog, ecommerce store, or other online venture. It doesn’t look so good when you are trying to provide information or services to the public and your site just won’t load.

And if you do have problems? Don’t ignore them. Talk to your domain and hosting provider and ask for help. Sometimes there’s a simple fix (like moving you to a different server) and sometimes they can help you to find other solutions. I can honestly say I’ve never been disappointed with my domain host in that regard.

  1. As of now, I don’t have a domain. But, for future, this article will help me a lot. Thank you :)

  2. There’s nothing worse than trying to get to your website and realising there’s a problem! I’m glad you got it sorted quickly, though.

  3. I decided to do a Blogger blog without a dedicated domain just for this reason. Since my blogging is more of a hobby, I don’t really need to worry about it. If I was making a living from it though, a good domain name can definitely make a huge difference!

  4. It’s very disappointing when something like that happens. We have a terrible internet connection where we live in Australia and I am glad I’m married to a geek who can usually sort out issues for me (non-geek).

I’m only “sort of” a geek. I can work through some things, but not others. But I can always tell when someone is giving me a bad answer! lol
